Strange how the overwhelming majority of complaints about this product state that it hardly whistles, if at all. It wouldn't seem relevant to some, but it should. Why? I fell ill and my husband decides to make me a cup of my favorite tea. He walks away to check on me and returns to find a KITCHEN FIRE!!! The plastic handle had completely melted. The spout/whistle was lying melted in a heap on the stove-top. NO WHISTLE!!! NOT ONE INDICATION WHAT-SO-EVER THAT THE WATER WAS BOILING!!! ISN'T THERE AN ACTUAL REASON FOR THE WHISTLE?? The couple of times that I used this "Whistling Teakettle" I noticed a inaudible whistle...not even really a whistle. I can't really be heard at all, whatever it is. I will read all reviews for everything I buy from now on! I came very close to losing everything I have - including my life and the lives of my family if you really think about it!!

This is a beautiful pot. I love the seamless bottom that doesn't collect gunk and minerals. It seems well made and sturdy. However, its beauty is the only reason I gave it three stars. I have discovered three negatives after having it for only a week. One: the lid doesn't stay on while pouring and jumps when the water boils. Two: there is already rust developing on the edges of the lid. Three: it doesn't whistle... at all. The only sound it makes is the lid rattling because it doesn't seal. There are deffinitely better pots out there.

Bought this to match our new decor in our remodeled kitchen. Nice looking with a pretty paint job. But after only about 8 or 10 uses, someone in the house noted that the PLASTIC cover on the spot literally melted (partially), obviously from hot steam. If the thing can't take what it's made for, it's a bust. By the way, it never really "whistled"--instead it was a low-pitched blowing noise. The kettle is still functional so we're still using it, but when I think of it, whoever designed it to have a plastic spout cover as opposed to aluminum, etc., is an idiot.

As with other reviews, this tea pot doesn't whistle.
I got it for my wife for Christmas. The first time she used it, it failed to make any noise at all. As a result, it went dry and the enamel on the bottom cracked and peeled off. It looks great but doesn't work well.

I bought this kettle in turquoise, and the color looks great in my kitchen. I also like that it's bigger than some of the premium kettles that have the same lovely harmonica whistle. The water has to boil for a bit before the whistle kicks in, but it works fine. The handle does not get too hot to hold for pouring, so I don't need a potholder (which was why I didn't get the one of the all stainless steel ones like Chantal that are also more expensive). My only problem is that the way the holes are positioned on the whistle, it is hard to push it back for pouring without burning your fingers. Turn off the heat and wait for the water to stop boiling first, and then you can do the whole pouring thing without needing a potholder.
I had bought the same kettle on eBay and got a defective one, with a non-functioning whistle and a too-loose lid and handle, so I do know what other reviewers mean when they complain about these problems. But the one I bought here works fine and looks great!
